Rangers beat Lightning, finish season in third

The Dandenong Rangers have finished their 2011/12 regular season on a high, thumping minor premiers and championship favourites the Adelaide Lightning in Adelaide on Saturday afternoon, 82-51.

Following Logan’s loss to Bendigo on Friday night, and hence Dandenong’s ability to lose third spot with a loss today, the significance of this contest was minimised and it showed in the first term, as both sides were slow and sluggish out of the blocks.

Neither team was able to get going offensively, as Adelaide could only manage a 15 per cent field goal percentage, with Dandenong performing worse that that, connecting on just 11 per cent of shot attempts for the quarter. The Rangers took a dreary 8-7 lead into the quarter time huddle. Read more

Sydney Uni. Flames secure finals berth with win over West Coast

The Sydney Uni. Flames have secured a place in the 2011/12 WNBL Finals, after racing home to beat a gallant West Coast Waves at the Sydney University Sports and Aquatic Centre on Friday night, 79-67.

The second-last ranked Waves stunned the Flames in the opening term, jumping out to a 22-14 quarter time lead, thanks to a balanced offensive attack, led by Rohanee Cox and Nikita-Lee Martin.

Sydney Uni. responded in the second period however, piling on 28 points for the term against West Coast’s 20, seeing the two sides draw level heading into the change rooms. Read more
