Redbacks secure big win over Victoria

The Southern Redbacks have raced to an eight wicket victory in their Sheffield Shield match against the Victorian Bushrangers today at the MCG.

Joe Mennie and Chadd Sayers led the way for the bowlers to start Day Three, claiming two wickets each, before Tom Cooper fired with the bat to set up the chase in South Australia’s favour.

Needing 145 for the win after bowling the Bushrangers out in the morning session, the Redbacks got their chase off to an aggressive start, with Cooper and Cosgrove finding the boundaries early to keep the run rate climbing. Read more

Keath to swap football for cricket this summer

The Adelaide Strikers have today announced the signing of ex-Victorian Bushranger and current Adelaide Crows listed rookie Alex Keath for the upcoming BBL season.

Keath joins the side having already debuted in all three formats of domestic cricket with both the Victorian Bushrangers and Melbourne Stars, where he featured in four BBL matches across two seasons.

A talented all-round athlete, the 23-year old moved to South Australia this year before signing on with the Crows as a Category B rookie in late October. Read more

Taylor ton guides Scorpions to WNCL glory

A sensational innings from Sarah Taylor has powered the SA Scorpions to victory in the Women’s National Cricket League Final at Hurstville Oval today.

Setting the Breakers 265 for victory, the Scorpions got their first breakthrough in the tenth over when Haynes was run out by Lauren Ebsary for 15.

Pressure bowling from Sarah Coyte (1/24) and Megan Schutt (1/45) led to the dismissal of Breakers captain Alex Blackwell (6) who was also run out, and when Alyssa Healy fell to former teammate Coyte, the Scorpions were well and truly in the game. Read more

Cowan rounds out Sixers BBL05 squad

Ed Cowan will spend his third season in Magenta, signing with the Sixers and rounding out the squad for the upcoming season of the KFC T20 Big Bash League.

Cowan, who returned to Sydney full time this season and signed with the NSW Blues, will bolster the batting again this season and provide experience to the squad alongside fellow veteran Brad Haddin.

After signing with the Sixers in the first ever season of the BBL, Cowan returned to the Sixers in BBL|04 and has made his home there. Read more

Strikers secure extra pace for BBL05

The Adelaide Strikers have added to their already talented line-up with exciting young bowler Hamish Kingston joining the team for the upcoming BBL season.

Kingston re-joins the team as another option in the bowling attack after being announced as a late replacement for Michael Neser last summer.

Appearing in his first Sheffield Shield match of the year, Kingston guided Tasmania to their first victory of the season, taking seven wickets for the match and ending a seven match first-class losing streak for the Tigers in the process. Read more

Hodge to bat on with Strikers

The Adelaide Strikers have consolidated their batting line-up for the next two BBL campaigns, with star signing Brad Hodge extending his current deal into the BBL|06 season.

One of Australia’s most exciting T20 players, Hodge spent last season with the Strikers featuring in three games and scoring a crucial 42 runs in the team’s narrow victory against the Perth Scorchers.

However, the big hitting Victorian’s inaugural season was temporarily cut short by injury, succumbing to a minor fracture in his right forearm which halted his campaign before returning to the Strikers’ semi-final side that fell short against the Sydney Sixers. Read more

Redbacks’ fairytale run comes to an end

The Southern Redbacks incredible Matador Cup campaign has come to an end following a nine-wicket loss to New South Wales in the Final at North Sydney Oval.

The young South Australian side battled hard all day, but were ultimately undone by a class Blues outfit laden with international experience.

It was a case of the usual suspects for New South Wales, with Mitchell Starc (3/38) and Josh Hazelwood (3/28) doing the damage with the ball, and the national captain Smith reeling in majority of the runs alongside former Aussie opener Cowan. Read more

Carberry, Harris round out Scorchers roster

The Perth Scorchers have today bolstered their batting stocks with the announcement that England import Michael Carberry and emerging tyro Marcus Harris have re-signed for the Club’s historic three-peat bid in the upcoming KFC Big Bash League.

Carberry joined the Scorchers in his BBL debut for last year’s back-to-back championship triumph and cemented himself as a fan-favourite by the end of the campaign.

The 35-year-old left-hander amassed 266 runs at a 44.33 average in BBL|04, including a swashbuckling 77 not out showing against the Brisbane Heat in which he blasted six maximums and six fours. Read more

Berry joins Sixers coaching team

The Sydney Sixers have today announced Darren Berry has joined the Club as Assistant Coach creating a formidable coaching set up for BBL05.

Berry will join Head Coach Greg Shipperd and his team, including former NSW Waratahs centre Tom Carter and Australian bowling great Geoff Lawson.

Having coached South Australia to a T20 title in 2011 and a Ryobi One Day Cup title in 2012, Berry took the Adelaide Strikers to a top of the ladder finish in last season’s home and away rounds resulting in their first finals appearance since the KFC T20 Big Bash League was introduced. Read more

Clint McKay joins the Thunder Nation in BBL05

Sydney Thunder has bolstered its bowling stocks for BBL05 with the signing of International fast bowler Clint McKay.

The Victorian clever paceman links up with the Thunder boasting an impressive International resume, playing 59 ODI’s with 97 wickets to his name and best bowling figures of 5-28. McKay has also represented Australia in six T20 internationals and one Test.

McKay is currently part of Victoria’s Matador Cup squad, and recently spent a season with Leicestershire during the Australian Winter. Read more
