Sky Blues continue unbeaten run, set new record

Sydney FC have moved 12 points clear at the top of the A-League and extended their unbeaten run to 18 games since the start of the season, after a 0-0 draw against Brisbane Roar.

The Sky Blues have also set a new Australian football record for the number of goals conceded after 18 games with eight, beating the record of 10 conceded by Wollongong Wolves at the same stage of the 1991/92 season.

Roar keeper Michael Theo was tested on numerous occasions by the Sydney FC attack while Sky Blues stopper Danny Vukovic also made some crucial saves in an end to end game. Read more

Glory set to play EPL giants

Perth Glory Football Club is excited to announce it will play English Premier League giants Chelsea FC in an international friendly at the new Perth Stadium in mid-2018.

The sporting coup has been secured by Tourism WA and VenuesLive (stadium operator) on behalf of the State Government and is expected to attract 65-thousand football fans with a very large number anticipated to come from Asia and interstate.

“This is an enormous opportunity for not only football fans, but sport fans in general, from around the nation and the Asia-Pacific region, to witness one of the best and biggest clubs in the world to play in our own back yard,” said club CEO Peter Filopoulos.

“This will not only help grow and foster football in Western Australia but will expose Perth Glory’s brand to a new market and millions of viewers and fans around the globe.” Read more

Sky Blues unstoppable, still undefeated

Sydney FC came from behind to deservedly move an incredible 11 points clear at the top of the A-League and stretch their unbeaten run to an immense 17 games since the start of the season.

Filip Holosko’s first half header cancelled out James Troisi’s opener for second placed Melbourne before Bernie Ibini scored a stunning second half winner.

Hosts Melbourne were reduced to ten men after James Donachie was sent off following a reckless challenge on Alex Brosque, as the striker looked to increase the Sky Blues lead. Read more

Phoenix succumb to Maclaren sucker-punch

Wellington Phoenix have fallen just short of a memorable week for the club after Jamie Maclaren’s late goal handed Brisbane Roar all three points at Westpac Stadium on Saturday night.

Just moments shy of their third clean sheet in eight days, a mistake at the back has hurt Wellington as Brisbane Roar have picked the Phoenix’s pockets with fourth place on the A-League ladder on the line.

Wellington started brightly, and in the fourth minute Roly Bonevacia’s clever ball found Kosta Barbarouses but his wicked cross evaded his Phoenix teammates. Read more

Sky Blues move eight points clear

Sydney FC extended their unbeaten season to 16 games and move eight points clear on top of the A-League table with a deserved 2-0 victory over defending champions, Adelaide United on Friday night.

The Sky Blues secured the win during a lively period in the second half with two goals in the space of two minutes.

After Brosque’s superb first-time volley broke the deadlock, Ninkovic quickly doubled his side’s lead with a calm finish just past the hour mark. Read more

Sky Blues maintain unbeaten run in derby draw

Sydney FC have maintained their unbeaten start to the A-League season after an entertaining Sydney Derby ended scoreless in front of 40,143 tonight.

The Sky Blues created an array of chances in the first half and came close to breaking the deadlock on several occasions against a dogged Western Sydney defence.

As the match wore on and the humid conditions took their toll, the Wanderers created a few chances of their own but were unable to breach the goal of an inspired Danny Vukovic. Read more

Phoenix secure a hat-trick of wins over Mariners

On his return to the side after an injury layoff Michael McGlinchey scored in the opening 10 minutes to seal Wellington Phoenix a 1-0 win over Central Coast Mariners at Westpac Stadium on Saturday night.

The home side began the match brightly and duly took the lead 10 minutes in when McGlinchey beat the goalkeeper at the near post with a fierce drive.

Wellington continued to attack and were unfortunate not to add to their lead, particularly in the first half, but in the end the solitary strike proved enough to give the hosts the three points and put them within touching distance of the top six. Read more

Mariners reveal plans for Central Coast Stadium

The Central Coast Mariners have today unveiled their bold vision for Central Coast Stadium that has been formally presented to the Stadium’s current owners and operators, Central Coast Council in a bid to transform the venue into a world class entertainment hub.

Mariners’ owner Mike Charlesworth has instructed the club to formally present a management rights proposal to council, citing concerns that the current business model does not facilitate best practice which contributes to the lack of growth and improvement of Central Coast Stadium.

Central Coast Stadium was officially opened in February 2000 and has remained relatively untouched during its 17-years-of-existence which has resulted in the venue become dated and in need of immediate attention. Read more

Carney strike sinks Mariners

A late David Carney header has ensured Sydney FC restored their seven point lead at the top of the A-League and go into the second half of the season undefeated.

Carney’s 77th minute strike came just a minute after the Mariners had drawn level at 2-2 through Scott Galloway.

Sydney FC’s Brazilian striker Bobô had earlier given the Sky Blues a 2-0 lead with a superb opening strike followed by a simple tap in thanks to good work from Milos Ninkovic. Read more

Taggart heads Perth to Glory over Wellington

Adam Taggart’s fifth goal of the season ensured Perth Glory return to the winner’s circle with a come from behind 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix on a rainy Thursday night.

It was an entertaining end-to-end encounter from start to finish at nib Stadium in front of 9,210 fans, with classy goals and plenty of cards in the ‘Long Distance Derby’ victory for Perth.

Wellington was quick out of the blocks in the Round 14 encounter, as Roy Krishna opened the scoring in just the sixth minute from inside the area. Read more
