Jurman set for Life changing move

Sydney FC has agreed a deal with a top Asian club for the transfer of centre half Matt Jurman.

The defender will make the life-changing move during the January transfer window and Head Coach Graham Arnold thanked the powerful 27-year old for his time at the club.

Sky Blues complete Goalkeeper signing

Sydney FC has completed the signing of goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne on an 18 month contract.

The 27 year old shot-stopper joins the Sky Blues to link up again with Head Goalkeeping Coach John Crawley and current number 1 Danny Vukovic, whom he played under and with during a two year spell at the Central Coast Mariners.

Redmayne is the first Sydney FC signing of this transfer window.

“I’m delighted to be joining the leading club in the country and excited to be working with John Crawley and Danny Vukovic again, as well as Graham Arnold,” he said.

“Crawley is a fantastic coach I’ve been lucky enough to work with JC at NSWIS and Central Coast Mariners. His successful track record of developing and maximising goalkeepers’ potential is second to none and I’m looking forward to working under him once again, to help elevate my game. Read more

Buckingham and Greenacre to take Phoenix forward

Des Buckingham and Chris Greenacre have been confirmed as the coaches of the Wellington Phoenix for the remainder of the 2016-17 A-League season.

The pair took the reins when Ernie Merrick resigned four weeks ago and have been in charge for four games that have seen the team unbeaten in winning one and drawing three.

On Sunday night the Phoenix fought out a scoreless draw with defending champions Adelaide United and were only denied a win by some outstanding saves from United keeper Eugene Galekovic. Read more

Phoenix denied by fine goalkeeping

Wellington Phoenix created a number of good chances but were denied the three points by Eugene Galekovic’s fine performance in a scoreless draw with Adelaide United at Westpac Stadium on Sunday night.

In difficult conditions on their return to the recently re-turfed ground, the home side created a number of good openings, including an excellent opportunity for Kosta Barbarouses in the second period, but a strong performance from Reds goalkeeper Galekovic managed to keep Wellington at bay for the 90 minutes.

Phoenix were well on top from the outset and almost went in front on 10 minutes when Barbarouses picked out Roy Krishna’s well-timed run, but the Fijian striker’s header couldn’t beat Eugene Galekovic in the Adelaide goal. Read more

Star duo fire Phoenix to an away point

Strikes from star duo Kosta Barbarouses and Gui Finkler helped Wellington Phoenix to a 2-2 away draw against Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium on Boxing Day.

Barbarouses gave Phoenix the lead in the first half with a fine individual effort from inside the box after the half hour.

While Newcastle managed to equalize shortly after the break through Andrew Hoole, a superb Phoenix move just seconds later was finished off by Finkler to restore Wellington’s lead. Read more

Super second half secures Phoenix a point

A fantastic second-half performance as well as goals from Gui Finkler and Roy Krishna earned Wellington Phoenix a 2-2 draw against Western Sydney Wanderers at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland on Saturday night.

Phoenix dominated the opening stages, but against the run of play it was Wanderers that went in front as Brendon Santalab slotted in from close range off a corner kick.

Wellington continued to play the better football for the first half and created a number of good chances that they just couldn’t finish off, while at the other end Glen Moss saved brilliantly to deny Western Sydney a second. Read more

Lia stunner leads Phoenix to victory

A super strike from Vince Lia helped secure Wellington Phoenix a 3-0 win over Central Coast Mariners in the A-League on Saturday night at Hamilton’s FMG Stadium.

Just two minutes into the contest, Phoenix hit the front as Kosta Barbarouses fired in from the edge of the box and Hamish Watson steered past Ivan Necevski.

Phoenix created a number of chances to add to the score and came agonisingly close just past the hour when Hamish Watson was played through by Jacob Tratt, but the striker’s shot came off the post. Read more

Merrick steps down as Phoenix Head Coach

Ernie Merrick has stepped down from his position as Wellington Phoenix FC Head Coach.

The club would like to thank Ernie for his contribution to Wellington Phoenix and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Phoenix are denied by late penalty decision

Roy Krishna scored his fifth goal of the season, but Wellington Phoenix were denied at least a point after a late penalty secured Melbourne City a 2-1 win at AAMI Park on Sunday night.

A deflected shot from Nick Fitzgerald spun beyond the reach of Glen Moss and gave City the lead on 44 minutes.

Phoenix reacted well after the break and duly equalised in the second half when Kosta Barbarouses was brought down in the box and Krishna scored from the penalty spot with a follow-up attempt. Read more

No Glory for Perth in Sydney

Perth Glory remains in fifth spot on the A-League ladder despite losing its Round Six encounter 4-1 against the undefeated Sky Blues, at Allianz Stadium this afternoon.

Glory carved open Sydney’s defence several times in the first 15 minutes, and almost netted a goal but the West Australians were unable to hit the target.

A defensive mistake in the 14th minute saw Sydney’s Milos Ninkovic open the scoring after Perth’s Dino Djulbic and ‘keeper Liam Reddy didn’t deal with a seemingly simple clearance. Read more
