Reds sign former Chelsea and Southampton youth

Adelaide United is delighted to announce exciting 18-year-old attacking midfielder, George Mells, has signed a contract with the Club for the 2015/16 campaign with the option to extend for a further season.

After attracting widespread interest during his early footballing years, Mells left Australia at the age of 12 to sign for Chelsea FC’s youth team and later moved to fellow English Premier League outfit, Southampton, when he was 14.

Mells grabbed the attention of United officials due to his great technical skills and the invaluable experience he’s gained during his time in the United Kingdom, giving him a great football base. Read more

A-League 2015-16 Season to kick-off in October

The A-League 2015/16 Season kicks off in October with three blockbuster rounds featuring a Sydney Derby, Melbourne Derby and an Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory blockbuster at Adelaide Oval to give fans a turbo charged start to Season 11 of Australia’s premier domestic football competition.

The season will burst into action on Thursday 8 October as the Western Sydney Wanderers host Brisbane Roar, kick-starting a season that will run uninterrupted through to the A-League 2016 Grand Final, which will played on Sunday 1 May 2016.

Round one will feature the traditional interstate Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory clash at Adelaide Oval on Friday 9 October. Read more

Glory boosts goalkeeping stocks

Perth Glory FC is proud to announce it has signed former Olyroo and Young Socceroo Jerrad Tyson for the next two seasons.

The 25-year old Tasmanian heads to Perth after spending the past season with Sun Pegasus in the Hong Kong Premier League.

The 1.89 metre tall custodian made his A-league debut in 2010 with Gold Coast United, where he played between 2009 and 2012. Read more

Sky Blues denied late equaliser

Sydney FC came within a whisker of holding the English Premier League Champions to a 1 all draw, but a late Seb Ryall goal was chalked off allowing Chelsea to leave ANZ Stadium with a 1-0 win in front of a huge crowd of 83,598.

Loic Remy hit a stunning first half strike for the Londoners but Sydney FC had a number of chances themselves with Alex Brosque having a shot cleared off the line and Christopher Naumoff and Terry Antonis having many more shots blocked.

The game ended a remarkable season for the Sky Blues who head off on a six week break knowing they have an Asian Champions League campaign to look forward to next season. Read more

Necevski to play final game for Sky Blues

Sydney FC goalkeeper Ivan Necevski will play his final game for the club in front of more than 70,000 fans at ANZ Stadium tomorrow night, after eight years of loyal Sky Blue service.

It’s expected the 35-year old shot stopper will be given a rapturous send-off when he hangs up his gloves after the AIA Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking ahead of the match, the Sky Blues longest serving player said he was looking forward to the game which will be played in front of a huge crowd. Read more

Glory release Jamieson and Vukovic

Perth Glory FC has this week mutually agreed to part company with fullback Scott Jamieson and goalkeeper Danny Vukovic.

Sydney born Jamieson, 26 years old, has been granted an early release to seek alternate football opportunities After completing his third season with the club.

Jamieson marked his 150th A-League match with Perth Glory this season and also featured in the team’s FFA Cup final. He played a total of 56 A-League games for the Glory since arriving in Perth in 2012. Read more

Aloisi departs to coach Brisbane Roar

Melbourne Victory Football Club would like to thank John Aloisi for his contribution to the club following his appointment as head coach at Brisbane Roar.

Aloisi, who joined Melbourne Victory as development coach of the club’s youth program in February, was unveiled as Brisbane’s new head coach on Tuesday night.

“We were well aware of John’s desire to coach again at A-League level when he joined Melbourne Victory and he leaves with our full support,” Melbourne Victory CEO Ian Robson said. Read more

FFA terminates Newcastle licence

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has today announced the immediate termination of the A-League licence held by Newcastle Jets Football Operations Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of the Hunter Sports Group (HSG).

A new licence will be issued to a new entity owned and controlled by FFA. A club from Newcastle will remain a member of the A-League and current players of the Newcastle Jets will be offered contracts with the new entity.

The termination is based on material breaches of the A-League licence held by Newcastle Jets Football Operations Pty Ltd, in relation to non-payment of players and staff, and an ongoing failure to meet standard operational requirements. Read more

Sky Blues to play EPL Giants Chelsea

Sydney FC will host three time English Premier League Champions Chelsea FC in a huge one-off clash at ANZ Stadium in June.

Blues Head Coach Jose Mourinho is set to bring a star-studded line-up to the Harbour City including leading goalscorer Diego Costa, Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, Spanish World Cup winner Cesc Fabregas and captain John Terry.

The match, on June 2nd, will take place just days after the end of the Premier League season when the English League Cup winners look set to wrap up their fifth English title. Read more

Ten man Glory finish strong at Winter Wonderland

A ten man Perth Glory FC has beaten Asian Champions Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1 and recorded its first victory at Pirtek Stadium.

On a night where a freak hail storm delayed the match by 55 minutes and turned the Parramatta stadium into an ice-field, the Western Australians once again displayed a tremendous amount of strength and character to muster their fifth win on the road this season.

Jamie Maclaren put Glory in front with a superb first-time strike to record his ninth goal of the season in the 17th minute, while Andy Keogh scored his 12th goal to secure the three points in the 66th minute.

Glory could have hit the front in the ninth minute when Griffiths headed the ball towards goal but it was cleared off the line. Richard Garcia followed through immediately after, but the ball hit the post and fell into the hands of Wanderers ‘keeper Dean Bouzanis. Read more
