Foran signs with Parramatta

The Parramatta Eels have today announced Kieran Foran has agreed to terms with the club for the next four years.

The 24 year-old international, who has played 19 Tests for New Zealand, will leave the Sea Eagles at the end of the 2015 season to join the Blue and Gold from 2016.

“Today’s signing is a great endorsement for the club’s positive transformation over the last two years,” Eels Chairman Steve Sharp said. Read more

NRL takes control of Gold Coast Titans

The NRL today took control of the Gold Coast Titans Rugby League football club. CEO Dave Smith said the move would secure the long term future of the club – and ensure the Gold Coast retained a team in the NRL.

“In other words, it is an important day for fans, the club and its sponsors,” he said.

Mr Smith said the Titans club was facing serious financial difficulties and the NRL had therefore decided to terminate the club’s licence and take over the running of the Titans itself. Read more

Sea Eagles to play Raiders in Albury

In a huge boost for rugby league in regional NSW, the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have today confirmed they will play their Round Five NRL fixture at Lavington Sports Ground in Albury against the Canberra Raiders.

The Easter Saturday clash on April 4 will be the first time the region has played host to an official NRL Premiership match, with the border city only previously hosting NRL pre-season trials and a City-Country Origin fixture in 2011.

The announcement that the Club is venturing to regional NSW to host the fixture, follows several star players – Jamie Buhrer, Justin Horo, Jesse Sene-Lefao and Wee Waa’s Jamie Lyon – spending time in Northern NSW earlier this month spreading messages about healthy living, eating and wellbeing in conjunction with running clinics to grow the game in the bush. Matai extends Sea Eagles stay

The future of star Manly Warringah Sea Eagles centre Steve Matai has been finalised today with the 203 game veteran putting pen to paper on a two year contract extension with the Club.

The new deal is just reward for the 30-year-old who has just come off one of his finest seasons in the maroon and white. Matai crossed the line on 13 occasions while also adding nine assists and 16 line–breaks in his 25 appearances.

The former New Zealand international was delighted to have committed to the Club until the end of the 2017 season. Read more

Rabbitohs win 2015 Auckland Nines

South Sydney have claimed the 2015 NRL Auckland Nines following an extra-time final which was finally ended by Matt King’s golden try.

The Rabbitohs, who took out the trophy just months after celebrating their NRL Premiership success, defeated a gallant Cronulla 18-14 in an epic final.

Adam Reynolds also took out Player of the Tournament honours for the Rabbitohs, who went through the Nines undefeated. Read more

Successful day one at Auckland Nines

South Sydney, Wests Tigers, Sydney Roosters, Parramatta and Cronulla will be the only undefeated teams to start day two of the 2015 NRL Auckland Nines after an unpredictable first day at Eden Park.

The Rabbitohs showed they will be serious Nines title threats, following on from their NRL Premiership triumph last October, with victories over Penrith and defending Nines champions North Queensland.

The Cowboys were strong in their first-up victory over Melbourne, but faltered against the Rabbitohs on a typically colourful Nines day in Auckland. However they can be heartened that they began day two with one victory and one defeat in 2014 before claiming the inaugural Nines trophy. Read more

Rabbitohs appoint Inglis as 2015 Captain

Rabbitohs fullback, and Queensland and Australian representative player, Greg Inglis, has been named captain of the Club for 2015.

Inglis, who filled in as captain during the Rabbitohs’ 2014 Premiership-winning season, has taken up the reins from team mate John Sutton who remains as a senior member and leader amongst the group.

Rabbitohs Coach Michael Maguire says the appointment of Inglis as captain will help refresh the squad ahead of a big season. Read more

Blockbuster opening to 2015 NRL Season

The 2015 NRL Premiership will open with a series of blockbuster matches and live television coverage of Sunday afternoon games will return next year.

And ANZAC Day will be one of the biggest days in the code’s history with five games being played in Auckland, Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane on the same day.

NRL Head of Commercial, Paul Kind said the Premiership Season would open in front of a massive crowd at Suncorp Stadium with the Broncos taking on 2014 premiers South Sydney. Read more

Bulldogs going back to Belmore

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are excited to announce that they will face the Cronulla Sharks in their ‘Back to Belmore’ match in season 2015.

As part of the club’s 80th Anniversary celebrations, the Bulldogs will take on the men from the Sutherland Shire at Belmore Sports Ground in Round 20 on Sunday, 26 July.

In what will be a significant occasion, fans are encouraged to become members of the club as it will be the only way to guarantee entry in what will be the first competition match to be played at the venue since 1998. Read more

Sea Eagles sign experienced trio, extend Lyon’s contract

The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have bolstered their forward stocks for next season with the signing of three regular NRL first-graders.

Willie Mason, Feleti Mateo and Siosaia Vave have all agreed to terms to join the club.

The trio will join their new Sea Eagles teammates for pre-season training in early November. Read more
