Cowboys and Money, Money, Money

Thursday April 14, 2011 by

KEYTO’S NRL HITS (and misses) In a week where the dollar spoke as loud as ever in the NRL, I want to shift gears slightly and talk about something I’m sure all fans can enjoy – the resurgence of the North Queensland Cowboys. This club has been shit for a few years – no other way to describe it, they stunk from top to bottom. But now, in 2011, they’re BACK!!

World of Change

The Cowboys had a bit of a clean out over the off-season and they needed it. The club had been coming across as unprofessional, the footy team looked like they didn’t care and the coach had no control. The place was a mess.

But then they made some big decisions – some great decisions. Read more

Random Ramblings

Thursday April 7, 2011 by

KEYTO’S NRL HITS (and misses) – We’re a month into the competition and there is plenty to talk about. The football has been great, despite being a tipping nightmare! There’s been a stack of issues happening this week so today I will give my take on a few of those.

Queensland ‘cheats’

Most of you probably heard about the blow up in Sydney regarding the Roosters Martin Kennedy wanting to play for Queensland. This led to the Daily Telegraph, known for its sensationalism, “lifting the lid on the Maroons darkest secret” by “exposing” the multicultural backgrounds of the likes of Adrian Lam, Lote Tuqiri, Karmichael Hunt and Petero Civoniceva. Trouble at the Gold Coast

Thursday March 31, 2011 by

KEYTO’S NRL HITS (and misses) – The Gold Coast Titans are sitting on the very bottom of the NRL ladder with three losses, including one thrashing and one match they should have won by 20 points according to the statistics. Their Under 20’s side is also propping up that table following three beltings. So what the heck has gone wrong at one of the new age ‘glamour’ clubs?

Dad’s Army

I’m only going to focus on the NRL side and remind you at the start of the year I tipped the Titans to run 13th – I can’t see them playing Finals Football this season. I agreed with what many people are now saying … the Titans are an ageing team that’s not getting better. Read more

Write off GI at your peril…

Thursday March 24, 2011 by

KEYTO’S NRL HITS (and misses) – So, how’s everyone’s tipping going? We’ve had a magnificent start to the season with almost every game a 50-50 bet. One team not winning though is the South Sydney Rabbitohs and one guy attracting criticism, is their million dollar man Greg Inglis. I’m not one of those about to get stuck into GI.

The Inglis Hate

Moving to Sydney, on a huge contract, was always going to be tough for anyone. Inglis was hailed as the saviour South Sydney have been searching for – the missing x-factor in their Premiership aspirations. Anyone with his credentials, on his money, is going to come under the pump when his club is losing … especially in the harsher Sydney media. Read more

Queenslander!

Thursday March 17, 2011 by

KEYTO’S NRL HITS (and misses) – Hi everyone and thanks for coming back again. What a marvellous opening round of rugby league we had!! Record crowds, a few good matches and plenty of points.

Unfortunately for some (Cronulla) things haven’t changed, but it was great to see the Cowboys flair return and sides like the Bulldogs back to some winning form. Today’s column is a little bit different and something I’ve wanted to write for a while. I want to explain exactly what being a Queenslander is all about, even though we’re far from Origin time. My 2011 NRL Wish list

Thursday March 10, 2011 by

KEYTO’S NRL HITS (and misses) – Well, I’m back! Finally the football is too, it’s been a long four months since the Four Nations Final in November! As always a new season brings renewed hope with 15 sets of fans believing this is ‘our year’ while one group crows about going ‘back-to-back’ and defending their premiership.

This season I’ve got a couple of things I’d love to see but I’m sure we’ll get another bumper year no matter who’s WINNING and losing. Read more

Top Five highlights of Season 2010

Thursday September 30, 2010 by

KEYTO’S NRL HITS (and misses) – Another long season is all but over and unfortunately it’s probably going to be remembered for the Melbourne Storm cheating drama. That aside, let’s take a look at five of the entertaining, enjoyable and positive events of this season.

5. Young Talent Time

This season we have seen the emergence of so many young superstars, future household names. We’ve seen Dugan, Hoffman, Gardner, Gillett, Croker, Fifita, Linnett, Waerea-Hargreaves and so many more make their mark. Throw in the Englishmen, Ellis in his second year and of course Sam Burgess who have really added to our competition. Even though it was a tough year at times for this Broncos supporter, it was also so very exciting thanks to the new talent on show. Read more

So, what have we learnt?

Thursday September 16, 2010 by

KEYTO’S NRL HITS (and misses) – Saturday night I sat at home and watched an epic battle at the Sydney Football Stadium followed by a very entertaining dual at Penrith.

I had nothing on either game, my team is gone and I wasn’t on the punt, so I didn’t care who won.

That’s probably why last Saturday night was the best fun I’ve had in football for a long time. There are six teams remaining now and the title picture is a little clearer. Read more

How the rest can beat the best

Thursday September 9, 2010 by

KEYTO’S NRL HITS (and misses) – One thing all NRL fans agree upon is the St George-Illawarra Dragons are THE team to beat in season 2010.

From Round One they have been the pace setters and league leaders and it’s been up to the 15 other teams to find a way to knock them off.

The Dragons are well deserved Premiership favourites in my eyes, but what’s it going to take from the other seven clubs standing to knock the Dragons off? Read more

Monday Night Football

Thursday September 2, 2010 by

KEYTO’S NRL HITS (and misses) – About 15 minutes after the brilliant finish to the Bulldogs/Panthers game earlier this week, I jumped on Twitter and asked ‘what are we going to do next Monday’?

I started the year as a Monday Night Football (MNF) hater but as season 2010 wore on it quickly became regular viewing. Read more
