Scorchers light up the Furnace in season opener

The Perth Scorchers have defeated the Adelaide Strikers by 48 runs at the Furnace this evening.

Spearheaded by an all-round team performance the Scorchers atoned for their five previous season opening defeats to comfortably win tonight’s only preliminary round match between these two teams.

Ashton Turner claimed the man of the match honours for his blistering 44 not out from only 19 deliveries with the bat towards the end of the Scorchers innings along with his superb bowling where he conceded only six runs from two overs. Read more

Strikers land Dunk on trade deadline day

The Adelaide Strikers have today landed a major coup with Ben Dunk coming across from the Hobart Hurricanes in a last minute trade.

The trade sees Hamish Kingston return to his home city and club in the Hobart Hurricanes after joining the Strikers last summer.

As an opener, in BBL|03, Dunk topped the tournament run tally with 395 at 43.88 and was named Player of the Tournament. Read more

Strikers confirmed to host first BBL semi-final

Cricket Australia (CA) today confirmed the Adelaide Strikers will host the first KFC Big Bash League (BBL) semi-final on Thursday 21 January 2016, regardless of finishing first or second place on the ladder.

The Strikers’ last-gasp win over the Hobart Hurricanes last night at Adelaide Oval has cemented the Strikers a top-two position heading into finals, and therefore the right to host a home semi-final.

CA today confirmed the semi-final scheduling given considerations around the BBL finals weekend taking place at the same time as the final stage of the Tour Down Under bicycle event in Adelaide. Read more

Head always believed Strikers could win

Last night’s hero Travis Head has said the Adelaide Strikers always had belief after he guided the side to a remarkable five-wicket victory over the Sydney Sixers at the Adelaide Oval.

Entering the 17th over with 51-runs still required for the win, Head smashed 56 off his next 15 balls to bring up his maiden Big Bash League century and secure the win for the Strikers.

Speaking to media after the match, Head said that the team always gave themselves a chance even when the required run rate was climbing. Read more

WBBL Strikers end year on a high

The Adelaide Strikers have kicked off Adelaide’s New Year’s Eve party in style with a 35-run win over the Perth Scorchers at Adelaide Oval today.

Packed on paper with international superstars, the Western Australian side imploded, falling to 100 all out as they failed to chase the Adelaide Strikers’ target of 135 in front of a 10,500-strong crowd.

The Strikers set out with intent from the start, running well and setting a strong platform with star wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Taylor (48) once again the lynchpin. The pressure created by a competitive total was soon capitalised upon by some probing and disciplined bowling to rip through the Scorchers batting line-up. Read more

Strikers sizzle in the Furnace

The Adelaide Strikers have accounted for the Scorchers at The Furnace in Perth this evening by four wickets.

The Strikers notched up a third win from five visits to the WACA Ground and second overall from as many starts in season five of the Big Bash League.

Man of the match Adil Rashid spun a web over Michael Carberry, Mitch Marsh and the Scorchers middle-order to finish with 2 for 21 off four overs then hit the winning run. Read more

Keath to swap football for cricket this summer

The Adelaide Strikers have today announced the signing of ex-Victorian Bushranger and current Adelaide Crows listed rookie Alex Keath for the upcoming BBL season.

Keath joins the side having already debuted in all three formats of domestic cricket with both the Victorian Bushrangers and Melbourne Stars, where he featured in four BBL matches across two seasons.

A talented all-round athlete, the 23-year old moved to South Australia this year before signing on with the Crows as a Category B rookie in late October. Read more

Strikers secure extra pace for BBL05

The Adelaide Strikers have added to their already talented line-up with exciting young bowler Hamish Kingston joining the team for the upcoming BBL season.

Kingston re-joins the team as another option in the bowling attack after being announced as a late replacement for Michael Neser last summer.

Appearing in his first Sheffield Shield match of the year, Kingston guided Tasmania to their first victory of the season, taking seven wickets for the match and ending a seven match first-class losing streak for the Tigers in the process. Read more

Hodge to bat on with Strikers

The Adelaide Strikers have consolidated their batting line-up for the next two BBL campaigns, with star signing Brad Hodge extending his current deal into the BBL|06 season.

One of Australia’s most exciting T20 players, Hodge spent last season with the Strikers featuring in three games and scoring a crucial 42 runs in the team’s narrow victory against the Perth Scorchers.

However, the big hitting Victorian’s inaugural season was temporarily cut short by injury, succumbing to a minor fracture in his right forearm which halted his campaign before returning to the Strikers’ semi-final side that fell short against the Sydney Sixers. Read more

Dizzy returns to coach the Strikers

The Adelaide Strikers are excited to welcome home a South Australian cricketing great, securing Jason ‘Dizzy’ Gillespie as their coach for the next two seasons.

Gillespie has established himself as a respected coach during his last three seasons at Yorkshire Cricket Club, building a reputation for clear communication, a sharp cricket brain and a straight forward approach to the game.

He guided the side to the Champions League Twenty20 in his first season in charge before delivering Yorkshire their first county title in 13 years in 2014. He has also previously worked with Kings XI Punjab in the IPL as a specialist bowling coach. Read more
