Five star Glory outclass Reds

Perth Glory FC put on an attacking master-class performance in the City of Churches to defeat defending champions Adelaide United 5-0 at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.

The scoring opened in bizarre circumstances just 15 minutes into the match. Josh Risdon’s floated cross found Reds defender Iacopo La Rocca unmarked at the back post, who miscued his headed clearance and put the ball past his keeper and into the back of the net.

Glory’s Spanish marquee Diego Castro would double Perth Glory’s lead 22 minutes later with a classy move. His quick feet were too much for the Adelaide defence, cutting inside and slamming his strike past Reds ‘keeper John Hall into the bottom far corner. Read more

Sky Blues move eight points clear

Sydney FC extended their unbeaten season to 16 games and move eight points clear on top of the A-League table with a deserved 2-0 victory over defending champions, Adelaide United on Friday night.

The Sky Blues secured the win during a lively period in the second half with two goals in the space of two minutes.

Phoenix denied by fine goalkeeping

Wellington Phoenix created a number of good chances but were denied the three points by Eugene Galekovic’s fine performance in a scoreless draw with Adelaide United at Westpac Stadium on Sunday night.

In difficult conditions on their return to the recently re-turfed ground, the home side created a number of good openings, including an excellent opportunity for Kosta Barbarouses in the second period, but a strong performance from Reds goalkeeper Galekovic managed to keep Wellington at bay for the 90 minutes.

Phoenix were well on top from the outset and almost went in front on 10 minutes when Barbarouses picked out Roy Krishna’s well-timed run, but the Fijian striker’s header couldn’t beat Eugene Galekovic in the Adelaide goal. Read more

Adelaide United clinch A-League Premiership

Adelaide United have been crowned A-League Premiers in the last round of the 2015/16 season.

Following Adelaide United’s 2-0 win over Melbourne City on Friday night, the Reds’ fate was left in the hands of Brisbane Roar, who lead the competition going into the final around of the campaign.

Brisbane’s failure to take all three points against Melbourne Victory on Saturday night ensured United would not be toppled from the league’s summit, clinching their first Premiership since the inaugural A-League season. Read more

Reds edge out 10-man Glory

Perth Glory has been defeated 3-1 at home for only the second time this season in its Round 14 clash against Adelaide United at nib Stadium.

The spotlight was on Andy Keogh from kick-off, as the Irishman made his season debut, but it shifted to Chris Harold soon after in the sixth minute when he played a key part in opening the scoring.

Richard Garcia had the ball wide left and sent a cross into the area. Harold was there to pick it out and sent the ball flying past Eugene Galekovic, although the deflection off Reds defender Tarek Elrich saw it credited as an own goal. Read more

Foreign flair runs riot over Reds

Perth Glory has earned its first three points of the A-League season, thanks to an emphatic 3-1 victory over Adelaide United at nib Stadium on Sunday.

New signings Guyon Fernandez and Diego Castro scored their first goals for the club, as Glory took to the field for its third match in seven days. Both goals were set up by returning captain Richard Garcia, who was voted the QBE Supporters’ Man of the Match.

While Adelaide dominated possession from the outset, the South Australians could not muster a clean shot on target in the first 45 as a result of some stringent Glory defending. Read more

Amor to replace Gombau

The Adelaide United Football Club would like to announce the mutual termination of the contract of head coach Josep Gombau, with the clubs’ current Technical Director Guillermo Amor to take over the reins.

Josep Gombau was contracted to the club until the end of the 2016/17 season, however, following a request from Josep to be released from his contract due to family reasons the Club has reluctantly, on compassionate grounds acceded to his request.

The Spaniard will leave his mark on this club, through football but also through his character and relationship with the players, fans and staff. Read more

Reds sign former Chelsea and Southampton youth

Adelaide United is delighted to announce exciting 18-year-old attacking midfielder, George Mells, has signed a contract with the Club for the 2015/16 campaign with the option to extend for a further season.

After attracting widespread interest during his early footballing years, Mells left Australia at the age of 12 to sign for Chelsea FC’s youth team and later moved to fellow English Premier League outfit, Southampton, when he was 14.

Mells grabbed the attention of United officials due to his great technical skills and the invaluable experience he’s gained during his time in the United Kingdom, giving him a great football base. Read more

A-League 2015-16 Season to kick-off in October

The A-League 2015/16 Season kicks off in October with three blockbuster rounds featuring a Sydney Derby, Melbourne Derby and an Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory blockbuster at Adelaide Oval to give fans a turbo charged start to Season 11 of Australia’s premier domestic football competition.

The season will burst into action on Thursday 8 October as the Western Sydney Wanderers host Brisbane Roar, kick-starting a season that will run uninterrupted through to the A-League 2016 Grand Final, which will played on Sunday 1 May 2016.

Round one will feature the traditional interstate Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory clash at Adelaide Oval on Friday 9 October. Read more

Late Rose winner claims three points for Mariners

A dramatic 84th minute Josh Rose winner and a spot kick follow up from Nick Fitzgerald was enough to overcome a first half goal from Adelaide United’s Awer Mabil to seal a last gasp 2-1 win for Phil Moss and the Central Coast Mariners.

With just over five minutes remaining and both sides on level terms it was an aerial cross with pin point precision from Mitchell Duke that landed in the lap of Rose and made all the difference. Rose controlled the cross just inside the area and struck home with style to send the home side into the sheds with a crucial three points.

Head Coach Phil Moss praised his men for coming home strong after an impressive week on the training park. Read more
