Bullets down China on the Gold Coast

Tuesday July 18, 2017 by

Signs are bright for the Brisbane Bullets as their Aussie brigade ground out an intense 89-83 win over Team China in front of an enthusiastic Gold Coast crowd of 3,128 on Tuesday.

Led by point guard Shaun Bruce in perhaps career-best touch and active bigs Tom Jervis and Mitch Young, the Bullets appear to have maintained the dogged mentality that underscored their first season back in the National Basketball League.

For China, Tuesday night signalled the end of a successful five-game liaison with the NBL across the All-Australian Tour of China and another game in Melbourne. Read more

Knight injured as ‘Cats smash Bullets

Friday February 3, 2017 by

Bryce Cotton put on a show as the Perth Wildcats took another step towards the NBL Finals, beating the Brisbane Bullets 94-63 at Perth Arena on Friday night.

Cotton had been an instant hit in his seven games since arriving in Perth, but his three-point shot had been hit-and-miss. That changed as he nailed all five of his attempts in the first half on Friday on his way to 25 points on 8/11 shooting from the field.

Nothing is guaranteed for the Wildcats as they hunt a 31st successive playoff appearance, especially with power forward Matt Knight leaving the court in the third quarter with what appeared to be concussion symptoms after coming in contact with Tom Jervis off the ball. Read more

Bullets get mean in United smashing

Saturday January 21, 2017 by

No more mister nice guy. The Brisbane Bullets have revealed a ruthless side missing for much of the season to bash and shock Melbourne United 88-71 at Boondall.

It was an axe that had two edges, the first that cut former Perth superstar Jermaine Beal from their roster earlier this week for under-performing.

The second edge was aimed squarely at Melbourne, with Torrey Craig (24 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals) sent in as a hatchet man to bruise the star-studded United line up. Read more

Dillard breaks Bullets hearts at the buzzer

Sunday January 15, 2017 by

Kevin Dillard has emerged as the thief in the night that could revive a New Zealand Breakers season thought long dead.

The new import iced off the most improbably win imaginable, 84-82, against the Brisbane Bullets on Sunday, draining the match winner on the buzzer after the Breakers trailed by as much as 13 for most of the game.

Dillard was irresistible in just his third game for the club, with a game-high 28 points, four rebounds and five assists. He came at the Bullets time and time again and ensure they were never out of the contest. Down the stretch, he had the final six points of the game, and suddenly the Breakers are finals contenders. ‘Cats backcourt comes up clutch against Bullets

Monday January 9, 2017 by

If Saturday’s defeat of Sydney was a warning shot, then Monday’s fourth-quarter clinic against Brisbane was confirmation that the Perth Wildcats are once again Championship contenders.

On a tough, treacherous and taxing night at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Perth’s 72-68 win over the Bullets was the first time in three years that the ‘Cats have won three consecutive games on the road.

Neither side gave an inch as defence ruled the day, until the ‘Cats took control with a 28-point final term thanks to the playmaking brilliance of back-court tandem Damian Martin (three fourth-quarter assists) and Bryce Cotton (seven fourth-quarter points). Read more

Bullets smash the Taipans

Saturday December 31, 2016 by

The Brisbane Bullets have shown a ton of character to overcome a week from hell in their massive 93-76 New Year’s Eve win over the Cairns Taipans.

Belted 97-59 by Melbourne United in a Boxing Day carve up, it got much worse for the Bullets during the week.

The club was dealt a hammer blow, with the news that veteran forward Anthony Petrie would require surgery for cartilage damage in his left knee, ruling him out for the season. Read more
