Sky Blues continue unbeaten run, set new record

Sydney FC have moved 12 points clear at the top of the A-League and extended their unbeaten run to 18 games since the start of the season, after a 0-0 draw against Brisbane Roar.

The Sky Blues have also set a new Australian football record for the number of goals conceded after 18 games with eight, beating the record of 10 conceded by Wollongong Wolves at the same stage of the 1991/92 season.

Roar keeper Michael Theo was tested on numerous occasions by the Sydney FC attack while Sky Blues stopper Danny Vukovic also made some crucial saves in an end to end game. Read more

Phoenix succumb to Maclaren sucker-punch

Wellington Phoenix have fallen just short of a memorable week for the club after Jamie Maclaren’s late goal handed Brisbane Roar all three points at Westpac Stadium on Saturday night.

Just moments shy of their third clean sheet in eight days, a mistake at the back has hurt Wellington as Brisbane Roar have picked the Phoenix’s pockets with fourth place on the A-League ladder on the line.

Wellington started brightly, and in the fourth minute Roly Bonevacia’s clever ball found Kosta Barbarouses but his wicked cross evaded his Phoenix teammates. Read more

Glory thrashes Roar in nine goal thriller

Perth Glory FC has extended its winning streak to five A-League matches with an emphatic 6-3 win over championship contenders Brisbane Roar.

In what was arguably the best 45 minutes of football in A-League history Glory grabbed the three points in front of a season high crowd of 12,156 at nib Stadium on Saturday.

Andy Keogh opened the scoring, giving the hosts the lead in just the fifth minute of play. An extended run of possession in the final third eventually led to a slip pass from Gyorgy Sandor for Josh Risdon. Read more

Injury hit Glory lose in Brisbane

Perth Glory has lost its A-League Round Six clash against Brisbane Roar 1-0. Glory arrived at Suncorp Stadium on the back of last week’s FFA Cup final loss searching for three vital A-League points.

With injuries to Gyorgy Sandor, Chris Harold, Mitch Oxborrow, Dino Djulbic and the loss of Josh Risdon (Socceroos), Glory had to re-shuffle its line-up.

The match started evenly with neither team taking the upper hand until the hosts started to dominate play and possession mid-way through the first-half. Read more

A-League 2015-16 Season to kick-off in October

The A-League 2015/16 Season kicks off in October with three blockbuster rounds featuring a Sydney Derby, Melbourne Derby and an Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory blockbuster at Adelaide Oval to give fans a turbo charged start to Season 11 of Australia’s premier domestic football competition.

The season will burst into action on Thursday 8 October as the Western Sydney Wanderers host Brisbane Roar, kick-starting a season that will run uninterrupted through to the A-League 2016 Grand Final, which will played on Sunday 1 May 2016.

Round one will feature the traditional interstate Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory clash at Adelaide Oval on Friday 9 October. Read more

Two penalties silence Mariners

The Central Coast Mariners have suffered an unfortunate loss to Brisbane Roar after conceding two second half spot kicks in tonight’s A-League clash at Central Coast Stadium resulting in a 2-0 victory to the away side.

Full focus for the yellow and navy turns to Tuesday night’s AFC Champions League bout after two successful penalty conversions, one by Brisbane’s Jean Carlos Solorzano in the 51st minute and the other from Andrija Kaluderovic in stoppage time.

Head Coach Phil Moss ensured the fans that his men would bounce back from tonight’s result and noted that belief is there to finish in the final six – he also welcomed Tuesday’s quick Asian Champions League turnaround. Read more

Mariners and Roar play out six goal thriller

Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar played out a pulsating 3-3 draw at a raucous Central Coast Stadium on Saturday, the two sides sharing the A-League spoils following a see-sawing 90 minutes at Gosford’s idyllic bayside arena.

Jean Carlos Solorzano handed Frans Thijssen’s charges the lead just before half time when he made no mistake in firing beyond Liam Reddy from six yards – the goal was the Costa Rican’s first in the competition for three years.

But while Roar may have shaded the play in the first 45, the Mariners came storming out of the blocks in the second stanza as they bid to send the strong crowd of 9,932 gathered on the banks of the Brisbane Water home happy. Read more

Dino’s thunderbolt sends Glory to the top

Perth Glory has edged its way back to the top of the table after a 1-1 draw against A-League champions Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.

Big central defender Dino Djulbic put Glory on top with a cracking volley, rguably a goal of the year contender, which looked certain to secure the three points for Perth.

However in the 87th minute, Roar striker Henrique turned the match on its head, slipping the ball past Perth keeper Danny Vukovic to level the game. Read more

Hat-Trick hero surges Glory to the top

Three crucial goals by Irish import Andy Keogh have propelled Perth Glory FC to the summit of the 2014/15 A-League table, in a thrilling 3-2 win over champions Brisbane Roar at nib Stadium.

Perth started on the front foot, with new signing Youssouf Hersi launching into attack in the first 40 seconds of the match. The Ethiopian-Dutchman was on the end of some sharp passing, but his shot was blocked by a Roar defender.

Hersi and Keogh pressed hard in the opening minutes forcing mistakes from the Roar defence. Read more
