Barbarouses back in blue

Melbourne Victory is delighted to announce the signing of 2014/15 double winning attacker, and New Zealand international, Kosta Barbarouses.

With 73-games in the navy blue already to his name, Barbarouses re-joins the club for a further two seasons.

The 27-year-old joins Socceroo Rhys Williams and young defender Thomas Deng as additions to head coach Kevin Muscat’s squad ahead of the 2017/18 A-League season. Read more

Rhys Williams joins Melbourne Victory

Melbourne Victory is delighted to confirm it has secured the services of Socceroos defender Rhys Williams.

Following more than a decade plying his trade in England, Williams returned home at the start of the 2016/17 season to join Perth Glory, where he made 18 appearances in all competitions.

The versatile 28-year-old will link up with his new Victory teammates when pre-season training commences on July 6. Read more

Captain Carl claims Victory Medal

Melbourne Victory captain Carl Valeri has taken home the 2016/17 Victory Medal.

In winning Melbourne Victory’s highest individual honour, Valeri received 62 votes, seven ahead of James Troisi (55) in second place, with Marco Rojas third on 37 votes.

Victory Medal votes were independently cast on a 3-2-1 basis by head coach Kevin Muscat and assistant coach Jean Paul de Marigny after every game, including finals. Read more

With many pre-game suggesting a Melbourne cakewalk, Wellington have recorded a stunning 3-0 win at AAMI Park on Sunday night to give Des Buckingham and Chris Greenacre back-to-back wins over Kevin Muscat’s Victory.

On a night where much of the build up was focused on Besart Berisha’s quest to become the first player to strike 100 A-League goals, it was the Wellington Phoenix frontline that proved much the sharper.

The Kosovan International was well-marshalled by returning captain Andrew Durante and the quietly spoken Marco Rossi, but it was in the front third that Wellington really did their talking. Read more

Sydney FC within touching distance of Premiers Plate

Sydney FC are within touching distance of the A-League Premiers Plate after a 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory took them eleven points clear at the top of the ladder.

The Sky Blues could wrap up the title as early as next weekend which would make them the fastest winners of the Plate in A-League history.

Graham Arnold’s men produced a host of chances against second placed Melbourne Victory and took a deserved lead five minutes after half time as Bobô rounded off a clinical counter-attack. Read more

Sydney FC came from behind to deservedly move an incredible 11 points clear at the top of the A-League and stretch their unbeaten run to an immense 17 games since the start of the season.

Filip Holosko’s first half header cancelled out James Troisi’s opener for second placed Melbourne before Bernie Ibini scored a stunning second half winner.

Hosts Melbourne were reduced to ten men after James Donachie was sent off following a reckless challenge on Alex Brosque, as the striker looked to increase the Sky Blues lead. Read more

FFA sanctions Melbourne Victory

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has today fined Melbourne Victory $50,000 and imposed a suspended three (3) competition point deduction after finding the club guilty of bringing the game into disrepute.

The finding relates to the misconduct of some Melbourne Victory supporters before, during and after last weekend’s Melbourne Derby at AAMI Park.

FFA has handed down the sanction after Melbourne Victory supporters were found to have taken part in a series of incidents, including the ignition of flares outside and inside AAMI Park, an alleged assault on TV news personnel outside the stadium, throwing missiles at a Melbourne City player and a Victoria Police officer, and altercations with police after the match. A-League 2015-16 Season to kick-off in October

The A-League 2015/16 Season kicks off in October with three blockbuster rounds featuring a Sydney Derby, Melbourne Derby and an Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory blockbuster at Adelaide Oval to give fans a turbo charged start to Season 11 of Australia’s premier domestic football competition.

The season will burst into action on Thursday 8 October as the Western Sydney Wanderers host Brisbane Roar, kick-starting a season that will run uninterrupted through to the A-League 2016 Grand Final, which will played on Sunday 1 May 2016.

Round one will feature the traditional interstate Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory clash at Adelaide Oval on Friday 9 October. Read more

Aloisi departs to coach Brisbane Roar

Melbourne Victory Football Club would like to thank John Aloisi for his contribution to the club following his appointment as head coach at Brisbane Roar.

Aloisi, who joined Melbourne Victory as development coach of the club’s youth program in February, was unveiled as Brisbane’s new head coach on Tuesday night.

“We were well aware of John’s desire to coach again at A-League level when he joined Melbourne Victory and he leaves with our full support,” Melbourne Victory CEO Ian Robson said. Read more

Merrick reaches double century

Ernie Merrick will be coaching his 200th A League game when the Wellington Phoenix take on the Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday which is quite an achievement for someone who had no ambitions to be a coach.

Asked to look back over a career that includes 151 games with Melbourne Victory and 49 with the Phoenix, Merrick sits back in his chair and smiles.

“It is quite amazing when I didn’t think I would be a coach in the first place,” he says. Read more
