Kurt Gidley wins Buderus Medal

Newcastle Knights’ captain Kurt Gidley has won the 2015 Danny Buderus Medal, the Newcastle Knights Player of the Year Award.

The award, presented at Friday’s 2015 Newcastle Knights awards evening, is a fitting accolade for Gidley who departs the Club to join the English Super League in 2016 after an illustrious 15-year career in the red and blue.

Gidley became the Club’s most capped skipper and the second most capped player in 2015 and showcased his leadership, skill and versatility playing in a number of positions throughout the season. Read more

Knights appoint Brown as head coach

Nathan Brown has been appointed as the Newcastle Knights head coach, formally signing a three-year contract on Wednesday.

Last week the Football Sub-Committee made a recommendation to the Board that Brown be appointed as head coach.

The Board approved this recommendation, which allowed the appointment to be finalised this week. Read more

Mullen re-signs with Knights

Newcastle Knights five-eighth Jarrod Mullen has signed a new four-year contract with the Club, keeping him at the Club to the end of the 2018 NRL season.

Mullen, who made his debut for the Knights in 2005 and has since played 172 games, is happy to re-sign with the Club he’s always supported.

“This is the Club I started playing my NRL career with and the Club I want to finish it at, so I am very pleased to re-sign,” Mullen said. Read more

Boyd wins Knights’ Player of the Year

Newcastle Knights fullback Darius Boyd’s impressive season continued on Thursday night when he was named the Knights Player of the Year at the Club’s Awards Night.

Boyd, who played in all three Origin games for Queensland this year and will represent Australia in the 2013 World Cup, featured in 26 games, missing just one due to Origin duties.

The 26-year-old was one of only three players to reach double figures in tries, try assists and linebreaks and linebreak assists. Boyd crossed for 11 tries, recorded 11 try assists (ranked second to Jarrod Mullen), made 12 linebreaks (ranked equal second alongside Joey Leilua behind James McManus) and 10 linebreak assists (ranked first). Korbin Sims re-signs with the Knights

Newcastle Knights forward Korbin Sims has re-signed with the Club for two years, keeping him at the Knights until at least the end of season 2015.

The 21-year old joined the Knights in 2011 and played Under 20’s in his first two seasons before making his NRL debut in Round 3 this season.

Knights sign Travis Waddell

On the eve of the 2013 season kicking off, the Newcastle Knights have signed Travis Waddell on a two-year contract.

The 23-year old hooker played 53 games for the Canberra Raiders prior to training with the Knights during this pre-season.

Waddell played in the Knights first trial match against the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Coffs Harbour and also lined up in his fourth All Stars match in February. Read more

Quinn accepts NRL appointment

Anthony Quinn, who recently signed with the Newcastle Knights for season 2013, has secured his off-field future with the Club by accepting the NRL position of Apprenticeship Mentor for Newcastle, Central Coast and the Hunter Valley region.

Quinn is one of 15 current and former NRL players appointed to the new role this season as part of the ‘Trade Up with the NRL’ program, which is an extension of the NRL Education and Welfare Department’s initiatives in career development.

All NRL Clubs will have access to an Apprenticeship Mentor to assist players in their efforts to successfully combine football with the development of their life-long careers. Read more

Quinn returns to the Knights

The Newcastle Knights have brought former player Anthony Quinn back to the Club after signing him on a one-year contract for season 2013.

Quinn played 103 games for the Knights between 2002 and 2006 and played a further 103 games in six seasons with the Melbourne Storm.

“Anthony has played with the Knights before so it is fantastic we can bring him home,” CEO Matt Gidley said of the 29-year old. Read more

Audit statement clears the air

Newcastle Knights’ auditors Crosbie Warren Sinclair has today released a statement clarifying some misleading assumptions reported in the media about the current audit being undertaken to meet the requirements of the Knights take over and the reporting process to the Member’s Club.

The current audit report being prepared is for the calendar year January 1st till 31st December 2012 but as the attached statement makes clear, this was not possible to be completed under the time-lines signed off by the previous Knights management.

Hunter Sports Group CEO Troy Palmer was confident this statement would clarify a situation that has been clouded by comments from former management and others without all the information. Read more

Mason officially extends contract

The Newcastle Knights are pleased to announce Willie Mason has officially signed a two-year extension with his hometown Club.

Mason arrived at the Knights mid way through the 2012 season and not only did he have an immediate impact on the team, he went on to play the rest of the season and won the Coaches Award at the Club’s presentation event.

“Willie made a wonderful contribution to the Knights from the minute he arrived, which has been well documented,” coach Wayne Bennett said. Read more
