Phoenix and Perth play out six-goal thriller

Wellington twice took a two-goal lead at QBE Stadium in front of an appreciative Auckland crowd but a high-flying Perth ensured the points were shared.

Wellington Phoenix’s co-coaches Des Buckingham and Chris Greenacre could be forgiven for being aggrieved they finished this game with just one point after their side compiled some of the best attacking passages fans have seen this season.

The home side started very brightly and twice enjoyed a two-goal buffer but Perth Glory’s never-say-die attitude saw them pull their way back into the contest, making a great spectacle for the neutrals but a nervy one for the coaches. Read more

City create history in front of record crowd

Melbourne City are W-League champions for the second successive season after defeating Perth Glory 2-0 in front of a record crowd at nib Stadium in Perth.

Goals in each half from player of the match Jess Fishlock and Beverly Yanez were enough to see off a brave showing from the home side.

Melbourne City became the first team to win the title for a second successive season, and just the second side to win the championship coming from fourth. Read more

Five star Glory outclass Reds

Perth Glory FC put on an attacking master-class performance in the City of Churches to defeat defending champions Adelaide United 5-0 at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.

The scoring opened in bizarre circumstances just 15 minutes into the match. Josh Risdon’s floated cross found Reds defender Iacopo La Rocca unmarked at the back post, who miscued his headed clearance and put the ball past his keeper and into the back of the net.

Glory’s Spanish marquee Diego Castro would double Perth Glory’s lead 22 minutes later with a classy move. His quick feet were too much for the Adelaide defence, cutting inside and slamming his strike past Reds ‘keeper John Hall into the bottom far corner. Read more

Glory set to play EPL giants

Perth Glory Football Club is excited to announce it will play English Premier League giants Chelsea FC in an international friendly at the new Perth Stadium in mid-2018.

The sporting coup has been secured by Tourism WA and VenuesLive (stadium operator) on behalf of the State Government and is expected to attract 65-thousand football fans with a very large number anticipated to come from Asia and interstate.

“This is an enormous opportunity for not only football fans, but sport fans in general, from around the nation and the Asia-Pacific region, to witness one of the best and biggest clubs in the world to play in our own back yard,” said club CEO Peter Filopoulos.

“This will not only help grow and foster football in Western Australia but will expose Perth Glory’s brand to a new market and millions of viewers and fans around the globe.” Read more

Taggart heads Perth to Glory over Wellington

Adam Taggart’s fifth goal of the season ensured Perth Glory return to the winner’s circle with a come from behind 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix on a rainy Thursday night.

It was an entertaining end-to-end encounter from start to finish at nib Stadium in front of 9,210 fans, with classy goals and plenty of cards in the ‘Long Distance Derby’ victory for Perth.

Wellington was quick out of the blocks in the Round 14 encounter, as Roy Krishna opened the scoring in just the sixth minute from inside the area. Read more

No Glory for Perth in Sydney

Perth Glory remains in fifth spot on the A-League ladder despite losing its Round Six encounter 4-1 against the undefeated Sky Blues, at Allianz Stadium this afternoon.

Glory carved open Sydney’s defence several times in the first 15 minutes, and almost netted a goal but the West Australians were unable to hit the target.

A defensive mistake in the 14th minute saw Sydney’s Milos Ninkovic open the scoring after Perth’s Dino Djulbic and ‘keeper Liam Reddy didn’t deal with a seemingly simple clearance. Read more

Santalab steals Glory with late equaliser

Perth Glory has been held to a 2-2 draw with Western Sydney Wanderers in a fiery encounter at nib Stadium today.

A season-high crowd of 13,290 witnessed the high tempo game, and was treated to two-goals in the opening five minutes.

The Wanderes got off to a blistering start, with marquee midfielder Nicolas Martinez scoring after just 32 seconds. Read more

Hat-trick Keogh steals the lime light

Irish international striker Andy Keogh has emerged as Perth Glory’s hero after scoring a perfect hat-trick in a fiery and spirited 3-2 win over glamour club Melbourne City, sending the Western Australians to the top of the A-League for at least the next 48-hours.

Keogh drew first blood in only the seventh minute of the match, after a well worked free-kick engineered by Nebo Marinkovic and Chris Harold who cut it back to Keogh to finish in front of goal.

On the stroke of half-time City equalised after being awarded a dubious penalty which saw last year’s golden boot winner Bruno Fornaroli score from the spot kick and send tempers flaring in both camps. Read more

Glory thrashes Roar in nine goal thriller

Perth Glory FC has extended its winning streak to five A-League matches with an emphatic 6-3 win over championship contenders Brisbane Roar.

In what was arguably the best 45 minutes of football in A-League history Glory grabbed the three points in front of a season high crowd of 12,156 at nib Stadium on Saturday.

Andy Keogh opened the scoring, giving the hosts the lead in just the fifth minute of play. An extended run of possession in the final third eventually led to a slip pass from Gyorgy Sandor for Josh Risdon. Read more

Perth soars to Glory in Sydney

Perth Glory FC sits just two points out of finals contention after a historic third consecutive win on the road.

The West Australians took all three A-League points today after defeating Sydney FC 2-1 at Allianz Stadium, extending its winning streak to four games.

Andy Keogh opened the scoring in the 23rd minute for the visitors. Gyorgy Sandor crossed the ball into the box which Sydney ‘keeper Vedran Janjetovic made a meal of and allowed Keogh to pounce and tap the ball into the back of the net. Read more
