Respected leader Shannon Hurn has been emphatically endorsed by the club to captain the team for a third successive season after the West Coast Eagles board last night ratified a football department recommendation.
First the players were asked to vote on the composition of the leadership group, the Football Department executive supported their views and finally the club’s board offered their stamp of approval.
Hurn, a straight-shooter who has excelled in the role of captain, will lead the playing group with a couple of subtle changes to the support network around him. Read more

Young bookends Jack Darling and Tom Barrass have re-confirmed their commitment to the West Coast Eagles club by signing contract extensions.
Darling, who has had a strong impact since his 2011 debut and featured in the top five of West Coast’s Club Champion Award on three occasions, has already played 128 games.
In conjunction with dual Coleman medallist Josh Kennedy, freakish goal sneak Mark LeCras, the tireless Jamie Cripps and versatile Josh Hill, he forms one of the most potent attacking forces in the AFL. Read more

West Coast Eagles members and fans across the country will be the big winners in 2017 after the AFL released the premiership fixture today.
The Eagles will host Thursday night blockbusters against Sydney and Geelong, the first on Easter Thursday in the annual HMAS Sydney II game, while reining premiers Western Bulldogs will head west for a Friday night clash in round eight.
In a terrific result for West Coast members and fans in Victoria, the Eagles will play seven games in Melbourne in 2017, up from four in 2016. Read more

Geelong ruckman Nathan Vardy will join the West Coast Eagles after a deal was reached with the Geelong Football Club today.
Vardy will head to the Eagles in exchange for their 4th round draft pick, currently pick 72.
The 25-year-old, who has played 25 games for the Cats, says he is looking forward to continuing his football journey in the west. Read more

Shannon Hurn has been endorsed by his peers and the coaching staff as a unanimous choice to continue as West Coast Eagles captain for the 2016 season.
That decision was formalised today when the playing group was informed of the leadership structure for the coming year and it was no surprise that the rebounding half-back was retained in the role.
The support network around him will also remain familiar with Josh Kennedy, Matt Priddis and Eric Mackenzie continuing in the senior leadership group while midfielder Luke Shuey has been elevated. Read more

The West Coast Eagles have agreed to terms for an extension of the contract for senior coach Adam Simpson that will tie him to the club until at least the end of the 2019 season.
Simpson, who this year took West Coast into its sixth grand final appearance before ultimately falling to Hawthorn, has had a profound impact in his first two years at the helm.
He was already locked in for the 2016 season as he looks to build towards a new era of sustained success. In making the announcement chairman Alan Cransberg said it was satisfying to be in a position to extend Simpson’s contract and reaching agreement offered security for all parties. Read more

West Coast Eagles midfielder Andrew Gaff confirmed his rise to elite status when he tonight won the John Worsfold Medal.
Gaff, who was named an all-Australian for the first time this season, polled 210 votes to win from Brownlow Medal runner-up Matt Priddis, who polled 206 votes. The ultra-consistent Priddis, who won the inaugural Worsfold Medal in 2013, has now been runner-up four times.
Coleman Medal winner Josh Kennedy was in third position on 183 votes. Read more

Veteran West Coast Eagles defender Sam Butler has had both his form and his fitness validated with the club extending his contract into the 2016 season.
Butler, 29, the only surviving member of the 2006 premiership team, has enjoyed perhaps his two most consistent seasons in the last two years and is looking forward to playing his role in a team that is aiming for a period of sustained success.
Drafted with selection 20 in the 2003 national ballot, Butler has dealt with more than the average number of injury concerns throughout his career, but has been unperturbed by those setbacks and has simply put his head down and worked hard. Not just hard, but smart. Read more

The West Coast Eagles has today locked down one of the crucial pieces to its long-term playing puzzle with superboot Shannon Hurn extending his contract for a further three years.
Hurn, 26, has already played 134 games and is on the restricted free agency list, but did not consider leaving the Eagles nest.
Life membership is an achievable target this year, with qualification set at 150 games, and the man with the most dynamic kick in the game decided to make an early commitment to remain with the club, keeping him on target to be a one-club player. Read more

Champion West Coast Eagles defender Darren Glass will captain the club for a seventh season, after coach Adam Simpson, the match committee and board unanimously accepted the recommendation of his teammates.
The decision means Glass will be on course to be the longest-serving captain in West Coast history. Already he has led the team in 121 matches and sits just 17 games shy of the benchmark set by former coach John Worsfold.
Glass, a three-time club champion and four-time all-Australian, is one of the most revered players in club history and commands great respect from his teammates. Read more
