Sky Blues unbeaten run ends at Nineteen

Sydney FC’s unbeaten run has come to an end after a solitary goal defeated the Sky Blues in the Sydney Derby.

Brendan Santalab struck midway through the first half to hand the home side the lead going into the break, before a gritty second half played out with chances for both sides but for no reward.

The Sky Blues will feel hard done by after three penalty decisions were contentiously waved away, with Alex Brosque having strong claims denied in stoppage time with the goal beckoning. Read more

Sky Blues maintain unbeaten run in derby draw

Sydney FC have maintained their unbeaten start to the A-League season after an entertaining Sydney Derby ended scoreless in front of 40,143 tonight.

The Sky Blues created an array of chances in the first half and came close to breaking the deadlock on several occasions against a dogged Western Sydney defence.

As the match wore on and the humid conditions took their toll, the Wanderers created a few chances of their own but were unable to breach the goal of an inspired Danny Vukovic. Read more

Super second half secures Phoenix a point

A fantastic second-half performance as well as goals from Gui Finkler and Roy Krishna earned Wellington Phoenix a 2-2 draw against Western Sydney Wanderers at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland on Saturday night.

Phoenix dominated the opening stages, but against the run of play it was Wanderers that went in front as Brendon Santalab slotted in from close range off a corner kick.

Wellington continued to play the better football for the first half and created a number of good chances that they just couldn’t finish off, while at the other end Glen Moss saved brilliantly to deny Western Sydney a second. Read more

Santalab steals Glory with late equaliser

Perth Glory has been held to a 2-2 draw with Western Sydney Wanderers in a fiery encounter at nib Stadium today.

A season-high crowd of 13,290 witnessed the high tempo game, and was treated to two-goals in the opening five minutes.

The Wanderes got off to a blistering start, with marquee midfielder Nicolas Martinez scoring after just 32 seconds. Read more

Wanderers found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has today fined the Western Sydney Wanderers $50,000 and imposed a suspended three (3) competition point deduction after finding the club guilty of bringing the game into disrepute following the misconduct of some of its supporters last Saturday.

The sanction has been handed down after FFA found some Western Sydney Wanderers fans took part in a pre-meditated and coordinated series of incidents including the ignition of flares and detonators and the display of unauthorised banners.

Where a serious incident occurs that FFA determines should trigger the suspended sanction, the Club will immediately lose three points in the A-League. This will apply to incidents that occur in or around any matches the club participates in and will be in place for a period of 12 months, through to 6 February 2017. Read more

A-League 2015-16 Season to kick-off in October

The A-League 2015/16 Season kicks off in October with three blockbuster rounds featuring a Sydney Derby, Melbourne Derby and an Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory blockbuster at Adelaide Oval to give fans a turbo charged start to Season 11 of Australia’s premier domestic football competition.

The season will burst into action on Thursday 8 October as the Western Sydney Wanderers host Brisbane Roar, kick-starting a season that will run uninterrupted through to the A-League 2016 Grand Final, which will played on Sunday 1 May 2016.

Round one will feature the traditional interstate Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory clash at Adelaide Oval on Friday 9 October. Read more

Ten man Glory finish strong at Winter Wonderland

A ten man Perth Glory FC has beaten Asian Champions Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1 and recorded its first victory at Pirtek Stadium.

On a night where a freak hail storm delayed the match by 55 minutes and turned the Parramatta stadium into an ice-field, the Western Australians once again displayed a tremendous amount of strength and character to muster their fifth win on the road this season.

Jamie Maclaren put Glory in front with a superb first-time strike to record his ninth goal of the season in the 17th minute, while Andy Keogh scored his 12th goal to secure the three points in the 66th minute.

Glory could have hit the front in the ninth minute when Griffiths headed the ball towards goal but it was cleared off the line. Richard Garcia followed through immediately after, but the ball hit the post and fell into the hands of Wanderers ‘keeper Dean Bouzanis. Read more

Risdon’s wonder goal seals Glorious fightback

Bunbury boy Josh Risdon has emerged as the hero, after scoring the best goal of his career, helping Perth Glory to secure three points and an emphatic 3-2 victory over Asian Champions, Western Sydney Wanderers.

nib Stadium was charged by an electric atmosphere as more than 150 Wanderers fans made the long trek across the Nullarbor.

Glory kicked-off the match in positive fashion and created a number of chances through Sidnei Sciola. Read more
